Out of the Chat Window: An AI That Works in Your Files and Apps
Course content. If you use AI chatbots a lot, you will probably find yourself spending much of your time copying and pasting and juggling countless slightly different versions of the same documents, so that you do not lose your work and the right context goes to your fresh AI sessions. In this course, you build an AI system that works in your own local files, inside your computer, and which starts automating some of the tasks you used to do by hand. It can move, rename, create and edit your files and folders for you, directly on your hard drive. It can write and revise documents directly in standard formats like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, Markdown and more. Through connectors, it also works in the apps you use most, such as your cloud drive (OneDrive, Google Drive), your email (Gmail, Outlook) and your calendar.
With these tools in hand, you start building your own AI workflows and automations, each a set of instructions the AI carries out for you. I bring a starting system for you to use, and you learn to modify it and build your own.
Goals. You learn to:
- instruct an AI system to sort, rename and reorganise your files and folders;
- use it to produce and revise documents, spreadsheets and slides from your own material directly on your computer;
- turn a task you repeat into a standing instruction, run on request or on a schedule;
- carry out a complex task across your files and your apps in a single request;
- work safely with a system that can change and delete your files;
- judge what such a system should be allowed to have access to.
Format. Every course can take different shapes: in person, online or both, as one intensive block or spread over several weeks, shorter or longer. Length, format and all practical details are open: we agree them together, and I adapt the course to what your institution needs.
